Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 October 2026
FlatRemote lets you see and control your own Mac from your other devices. It is built so that we do not need, and do not keep, information about you or what is on your screen.
What we do not collect
- No account: no name, email address or password.
- No screen content, keystrokes or mouse input. These travel end-to-end encrypted between your devices and we cannot read them.
- No analytics, advertising or tracking, and no third-party SDKs for either.
What passes through our service
To let your devices find each other, the FlatRemote apps connect to our coordination service. While a device is connected, the service holds in memory:
- the device's public key and an identifier derived from it,
- the device name shown during pairing (for example "Ali's iPhone"),
- its IP address, used to deliver messages and to limit abuse.
None of this is written to a database. It is gone when the device disconnects or the service restarts. During pairing, the service sees only a one-way hash of the pairing code, never the code itself. Connection setup messages are signed by your devices, so the service cannot impersonate either side.
Relayed connections
When your network does not allow a direct connection, the encrypted connection is relayed through Cloudflare's TURN service. The relay forwards encrypted packets and cannot decrypt them. Cloudflare's handling of network data is described in its own privacy policy.
Server logs
Like any website, our servers may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, time and requested address) for a limited period to keep the service secure and working. They are not used to build profiles and are not shared or sold.
Data on your devices
Each device creates its own encryption key and keeps it, along with the list of paired devices, in the system Keychain. On iPhone and iPad, iCloud Keychain may sync this between your own devices. Removing the app, or removing a device from the Mac's list, ends that pairing.
Permissions
On the Mac, Screen Recording lets FlatRemote send the picture to your paired devices and Accessibility lets it apply their mouse and keyboard input. On iPhone and iPad, the camera is used only to scan the pairing code, and Local Network lets your devices connect directly on the same Wi-Fi.
Children
FlatRemote is not directed at children and does not knowingly process information about them.
